Drunk Justin Reviews…The Taking of Pelham One Two Three

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

So, Ruth is out of town, so, as is my nature, I’m taking the opportunity to watch a violent movie, drink an entire bottle of wine, and indulge myself with a prime rib eye steak and some fixin’s.

The food:

It’s a nice ribeye, with some grilled mushrooms, and avocado. The steak has a nice herbed blue cheese butter with garlic paste and truffle salt…good times.

The movie: it’s the original, 100 pts RT, 4 stars netflix, a concise action thriller…useful more for it’s portrayal of 1970’s New York, but an enjoyable taut thriller that’s clearly a predecessor to movies like Speed, Faceoff, and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. It’s nice…no Bullitt or Heat of the Night or probably in the top 100 of 70s films, but it’s a nice way to spend a Sunday.

The wine: 2006 Thelema Cabernet out of South Africa. WS91. The reviews talked about a really intense menthol, smoky, eucalyptus flavor. Some people loved it, some people compared it to an ashtray. I really enjoy the cab…it’s a full, smoky flavor, but there’s enough violet and blueberry compote to balance it. I enjoy it!
